Resistance?
There is Change!

September has arrived (and is already over!) and with it lots of news for the Way Beyond team!
As always, we like to share the good news with everyone who contributes to our happy life!

Want to know what happened to us? We changed and we moved 😎.

The world changed with all this pandemic madness and we changed with it. In our heads and hearts, the change started happening before and, by chance (and fortunately!), has materialised at this time of so many physical and emotional, individual and collective changes.

This is the newsletter that tells how we can't resist changing!

The "Obsession" of the Month

As we will tell you below, over the last two months we have devoted much of our time to our future and we have done so by revisiting the past and identifying what we would like to be (and not have been) different from now on.

For inspiration, we obsessed over the podcast Revisionist History created with the purpose of looking back in time to reinterpret an event, a person, an idea. Something that has been forgotten or may have been misunderstood. After all, if the story is told well, even the past can change.

Try following the excellent storyteller Malcolm Gladwell in the different journeys back in time on Revisionist History, which is already in its fifth season, here (Apple Podcasts) or here (Spotify).

🏡 We can't resist change!

Throughout the life of Way Beyond, some things have become clearer. Mainly those that have to do with our relationship as a team and the relationships we have with our clients and partners. Above all, we know that we want to be closer to each other, with the lightness and depth that have always characterised us.

So, we have changed! We have changed and we have put into practice actions that make visible this will and need for the Way Beyond project to be made of and for the relationship with the people with whom we share who we are and what we know how to do.

What has changed?

We have changed format: we are now a company of 7 partners

João, Ângela and Vítor invited the rest of the team - Joana, Lígia, Sónia and Teresa - to join the company. We did all the paperwork in August and now, back on holiday, we couldn't be happier with the decision we've taken. It was an old idea and vision that we finally realised. If before this step we no longer used titles that differentiated us hierarchically, now we are all partners! If before, each person already saw this project as their own, now this is even more true. One more step in the consolidation of our culture of transparency, commitment and equity.

We moved house: from the big house to the shared house

We left our office in Rua Braamcamp and are now at Places, the cowork space in Rua Flores de Lima (former cinema Quarteto). We're convinced that we'll be as happy here as we were in the wonderful house we inhabited for several years, but which was already becoming "a loose suit" for us who want closer relationships and who believe that collaboration and transversality is where "the win" lies. Times have asked us to be more agile and more flexible and we have gained the courage to explore new spaces, literally.

We created Way Beyond to go beyond established barriers and have always worked at the intersection of different areas of knowledge. We are determined to continue this path of exploration beyond the borders that exist between sectors. This is also why we decided to move to Places, which is also home to Adagietto, with whom we have a two-way relationship: we are clients and suppliers of Adagietto. Above all, we are partners. Who knows what may come of this?

We have changed our digital "home

We changed the face of our website to make it more like who we are today: consistent, intuitive, elegant, clear, close and with a strong identity.

We have changed the scope of our school

What was the Way Beyond CoachingSchool is now just Way Beyond School. Coaching training remains part of our offering, with our Way Beyond Coaching Class programme and this is joined by Way to Speak, on communication and Way to Lead: The Art of Facilitation.

But on the subject of the program that first gave our School its name, we are happy to tell you that the Way Beyond Coaching Class is accredited by the International Coach Federation (ICF) as Approved Coach-Specific Training Hours (ACSTH) for all 239 hours. This means that students who successfully complete our programme will be able to use our diploma to apply for ACC or PCC certification levels through ACSTH applications.

🗓 On the agenda

Way to Speak in Public 12th Edition

We told you in August that the 12th edition of Way to Speak, our communication programme, will take place on 21, 22 and 30 October and that hasn't changed 🙃.

In the Way to Speak in Public Programme, we seek to create a learning experience where each participant is encouraged to discover and explore their style to communicate with impact. We do this by finding parallels between presenting and acting, with the help of Alice Medeiros (actress and drama teacher) and Sónia Morgado (facilitator).

Do you know what Alice likes most about this Programme?
"(...) the autonomy that participants gain in using the tools that we put at their disposal. I usually notice this in the application they make of what they learn in their presentations and in the ownership they have in listening to their colleagues' presentations and the way they give and receive feedback".

And who does Alice think should do this Programme?
"
Anyone who has noticed that, in this day and age, knowing how to communicate is as important as being an expert in a particular field, should come and do our Programme."

📚 In our "library"

This month we have selected for you:

The emotional bureaucrats
Avoid bureaucracy, for the sake of your creativity and everyone's emotional health. Or as the other says: "The most expensive form of stupidity is possibly bureaucracy" (Paul Tabori). Take a look at what our John thinks.

The Futures of Work: Fixed vs Fluid

What futures for what jobs? Nobl Academy talks to us about looking around and choosing yourself (and your team) the path you want to take!

🎶 We give you music

We welcome Autumn with jazz, the free and the other(s).
Because the rush of change can taste like the trumpet of Miles Davis and the new beginning of life, in a family and in another house, on the piano of Thelonious Monk. And in between, so many good things happening!

This article is a collaboration with David Diogo, who was a guest at one of our Tea Talks1,94m, born in Lisbon, graduated in Cinema. Sound Designer, Sound Post-Producer and Music Producer by profession and by chance! He gravitates around the art world like a wandering comet.
