Much of who we are is the result of the stories we hear.

In the business context, and beyond, storytelling is an essential communication tool for turning complex into accessible information, for cultivating relationships, for selling ideas or products, and for inspiring others.

Throughout 11 editions, our Communication Program was called Body & Soul. Today, as before, we remain with our body and soul together to help you improve your communication. We have only changed the name!

In the Way to Speak in Public Program, we seek to create a learning experience in which each participant is encouraged to discover and explore his or her own style in order to communicate with impact and clarity.

The Program

It is a learning experience in which a context is created for each person to learn to know themselves as communicators and to discover that one of the secrets to a good communication lies in the ability to be vulnerable and authentic.

We combine techniques from actor training with facilitation practices from Way Beyond intended to encourage participants to discover the power of storytelling as a way to communicate their message, inspire confidence, and spur action.

Why did we design it?

We were challenged by a client to "make a 'different' communication program, without powerpoint and working on confidence". We like challenges, so we went straight to the drawing board! We reflected, talked and experimented until we came up with this result.

What they say

"As this is a program on effective communication skills, its added value is that it is an effective program, "to the point". This means that by attending it, you will in fact understand how your communication is, what factors distinguish it and should be preserved and which ones can be improved. You will also realize that there are peculiarities that define us and that are worth keeping."

- Inês Fronteira, Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine

"This is a very innovative program that allows a deep understanding of ourselves and how to react to our environment (...)".

- Elsa Vilanova, AbbVie - Brand Specialist

"It was one of the best trainings I have attended and the learning will allow me to improve substantially. To identify the points for improvement, to provide tools to correct them. The program will allow me to substantially improve the way I communicate - in terms of content, posture, look, voice placement."

- Ildi Cimasiu, Faculty of Science and Technology

"Excellent program and approach. The challenge of the discomfort which culminated in a willingness to embrace all the advice, tips, information."

- Gabriela Silva, Faculty of Medical Sciences

"I really enjoyed this training and highly recommend it to everyone who uses communication in their daily lives. The tips and practical exercises are applicable beyond the classroom, making it very interesting to rethink our daily communication. There is a personalized attention to the difficulties of each one and exercises are suggested to help us overcome them. Once the training is over, I'm looking forward to putting what I've learned into practice and evaluating the results!"

- Inês Moreira, NOVA School of Business and Economics

What to expect

To improve the impact of communication in public.

To increase trust and credibility in interacting with the audience.

To make good use of stories and to challenge for action.

An experience that will remain in the memory, and hopefully also in the body.

The assumptions

Being a good communicator requires work!

It is important to clearly define the reason for telling a story - if it is not clear to you, it won't be to others.

Stories build trust, knowledge sharing and bring meaning and purpose to actions.

To know how to be present and work with rules and limits.

The contents

The importance of preparing both the communicator and the content.

Concentration and attention.

Presence and flexibility.

Clarity of the message: definition of the purpose.

Listening and attention in the relationship with the audience.

Storytelling - the power of stories in relating to others.

Creation of a library of personal stories.

How to choose and incorporate stories into the professional context to make business messages more impactful.

Training and feedback.

The parallel between an actor and a speaker is great, and the art of acting offers us useful learning to communicate better.
